Happy Mother's Day!
Mother's Day is a holiday that many countries celebrate around the world. We honor and appreciate our mothers and motherhood. It has been documented that Americans began to celebrate Mother's Day in the early 20th century. A woman by the name of Anna Jarvis, an American social activist, wanted to honor her mother who died in 1905. Her mother was a peace activist during the Civil War. She organized a day called Mother's Friendship Day. It was designed to join mothers from both sides of the conflict.
The first official Mother's Day celebration was in 1908 at a Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, where Anna's mom taught Sunday school. Mother's Day soon gained popularity. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation to celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May. https://www.history.com/topics/holidays/mothers-day
Many of us honor our Mothers daily. Acknowledging their constant efforts to make our lives easier is worth celebrating every day. Whether your mother is living or not, let's celebrate the blood, sweat, and tears they/we have sacrificed.
Wishing all mothers peace, love, and abundant blessings!
