Is It Possible To Make Walking In The Heat Bearable?

If You Must Walk In This Unbearable Heat, Here Are 12 Ways To Help Make Walking Bearable.

Walking in the heat is no doubt a challenge. However, there are several strategies you can use to make it more bearable and stay safe. Here are some ways that may help:

  1. Drink plenty of water before you start your walk. Bring a bottle with you to drink during and after. If you become dehydrated, it can make the heat feel more intense and can lead to heat-related illnesses.

  2. Walk during the cooler parts of the day. Start early in the morning or late evening. Try to avoid walking during peak heat hours. This is usually late morning to mid-afternoon.

  3. Wear Clothing that is lightweight, loose-fitting, as well as light-colored clothing. This will assist your body to regulate its temperature more effectively.

  4. To protect your head and eyes from direct sunlight, wear a hat and sunglasses.

  5. Use sunscreen with a high SPF in order to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays and prevent sunburn.

  6. If can, plan your route that has shaded areas or parks with trees. Walking in the shade can significantly reduce the feeling of heat.

  7. Take as many breaks as possible. Walking for an extended period should always include breaks in shaded areas to cool down and rest.

  8. Carrying a cooling wet towel or bandana can help. Placing a wet towel around your neck to help lower your body temperature is a great idea.

  9. Pacing yourself is important. Walking in the heat should be slow and steady. This will help reduce the strain on your body and conserve energy.

  10. Listening to your body is key. Pay attention to any changes in your body during your walk. If you start feeling dizzy, excessively fatigued or experience any other heat-related symptoms, find a cool place to rest and rehydrate.

  11. Try to avoid busy streets. Walking close to busy roads with asphalt can increase the heat. This is due to the heat-absorbing properties of the pavement. If you can, try to stick to less busy, tree-lined streets or paths if possible.

  12. If you can, use a portable fan or misting bottle: This will help provide instant relief during your walk.

Please keep in mind that walking in extreme heat can be dangerous for the young and old. It is best to prioritize your health and safety. If the heat is too intense, consider indoor exercise as an option and postpone your walk to a cooler time of day.
