Balancing Our Lives In The Most Delicate Ways, Is Key.

How often do you wake up in the morning and feel like your body has been hit by a Mack truck? The first question you may ask yourself is, what the heck did I do yesterday to make this happen? We sometimes tell ourselves that "this just happened." I was not feeling like this last week. More than likely, you are correct. You may not have been feeling exactly like that. However, your body may have been giving you signals that you were not paying attention to last week. Because you weren't listening last week, it decided to speak louder this week.


Many times people reach, lift, and carry items that are too heavy or simply pick them up wrong. This may result in an injury that could have been avoided by breaking down items into smaller pieces or asking for help. Pain doesn't usually reveal itself right away. It will when you least expect it.


When our bodies are compromised in any way, they will speak to us. If we do not listen, they will show us. At this point, you may not have a choice but to listen.


Balancing our lives is not just eating, exercising, and sleeping. We have to clean and maintain our homes, vehicles, and of course, our bodies. While performing these activities of daily life, we must be mindful of how we are using our bodies to complete these tasks.


The best way to minimize a potential injury is to stand close to the item you are attempting to lift. Bend your knees to squat, widen your base of support, reach, and lift. Planning ahead to complete simple tasks is also a good idea. Many times injuries occur when we are rushing to get something done. Safety should always be a priority.
