The Seven Principles Of Kwanzaa

What Day Of Kwanzaa Is The Most Special For You?

There are many people around the world who celebrate Kwanzaa the week following Christmas. However, there are also those who incorporate and practice the principles of Kwanzaa into their lives, daily.

For those who are not familiar with Kwanzaa, it is not a holiday. It is a way of life.

The seven principles (Nguzo Saba) are...

1. Umoja (Unity)

2. Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)

3. Ujima (Collective Works and Responsibility)

4. Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)

5. Nia (Purpose)

6. Kuumba (Creativity)

7. Imani (Faith)

Many people live by these principles and probably never realized that they have been doing so.

My favorite principle is Kujichagulia, Self-Determination. As a child, I was taught that faith without work is dead. I must have a purpose with a great deal of imagination to create change in my life. In addition, I may need others to help with resources. This to me means building relationships in my community to Collectively Work Responsibly with Unity and Cooperative Economics. I believe that without Self-Determination, not much would get done. https://www.biblestudytools.com/bible-study/topical-studies/why-is-faith-without-works-dead-according-to-the-bible.html

Each of us lives by a rule or rules that we create to get things done. We can choose to create and complete a task alone or with others. Life can be less challenging when we do things together. We can help others while helping ourselves and growing together. Therefore, I celebrate the principles of Kwanzaa 365 days a year. Working collectively together brings unity in and to the community. This is what Self-Determination and Kwanzaa mean to me.

HAPPY KWANZAA 365!
