What Are Some Causes For Knee Pain While Sleeping?

There Are Many Reasons Why People Suffer From Knee Pain. It May Not Be That Difficult To Treat.

It is always best when you are suffering from continuous pain to contact your doctor to receive a proper diagnosis. Knee pain while sleeping could be caused by many factors. Below are some reasons for increased knee pain while sleeping:

  1. Improper Sleep Position:

  • Sleeping in positions that can put increased pressure on your knees. Awkward positions can cause knee pain. Placing a pillow between or under your knees could reduce your pain.

  • Osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis can cause inflammation and pain in the joints which is likely to increase knees. Inactivity, such as sitting, lying down, and sleeping may cause pain to worsen.

  • The bursae are small, fluid-filled sacs that cushion the joints which can become inflamed and lead to joint and/or knee pain. Pain associated with bursitis may increase at night.

  • The tendons around the knee can become inflamed and cause pain. Discomfort and pain may be revealed during rest.

  • If you've experienced tears in your meniscus, which is the cartilage in the knee joint, can lead to pain, swelling, and discomfort. Increased movements as well as rest can increase knee pain.

  • Overuse of the knee joint without proper rest and recovery may lead to pain. This has the potential to become more noticeable while resting.

  • Decreased physical activity or increased periods of inactivity can contribute to stiffness and pain in the knees.

  • The support of your mattress and pillows can impact your body alignment during sleep. This can negatively affect your overall sleep, causing knee pain.

  • Certain conditions, such as lupus or some arthritic conditions, may cause inflammation and increased joint pain, including knee pain.

  • Weight gain can increase stress on the knee joints. This can lead to pain during movement and may be more pronounced while resting.

If you are experiencing knee pain while sleeping, contact a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation. They can conduct tests and provide a thorough physical exam to determine the cause of your knee pain.
