What Is Azodicarbonamide, Why Is It In Some of Our Food, & How Does It Affect Our Health?

Check The Ingredients On The Food Packages Before You Buy Them.

ADA also known as Azodicarbonamide, is a chemical compound used as a blowing agent during the production of rubber and foamed plastics. It is used to generate gas and create a foaming effect in materials. This process makes them expand and become lightweight while manufacturing products such as foam mats, shoe soles, yoga mats, and certain types of packaging.

Azodicarbonamide has been approved in some countries as a food additive (E927) to whiten flour and improve dough properties. It has also become the subject of debate due to health concerns associated with its use.

One of the major concerns with azodicarbonamide is when it is heated during the manufacturing process or cooking, it breaks down into semicarbazide. This is a chemical compound that has been linked to the cause of tumors in some animal studies. However, it should be noted that the levels of semicarbazide formed during normal use are considered small.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has allowed azodicarbonamide as a food additive within certain limits. As a result, some health advocates and consumer groups have raised concerns about its potential health effects. This has led to discussions regarding its safety in food products.

It is important to stay informed about regulations and guidelines in your region to make choices based on your personal preferences and health considerations. Many of the foods we consume with this additive could cause some people health issues. It is best to contact a healthcare professional or nutritionist if you have health concerns or dietary restrictions before changing your diet.
